pmc > Biology

One of the unique aspects of PMC is that we offer experienced professionals on a contract basis to assist our clients in meeting their short- and long-term priorities. Our contracting services include knowledgeable and talented biological resources staff who provide responsive scientific and regulatory expertise essential for assessing and protecting sensitive biological resources in California. Strong technical ability and an understanding of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements enable PMC to assist our clients in making informed decisions regarding impacts to and management of biological resources and ecological systems. We have the knowledge and experience to successfully complete environmental documents in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Our experienced staff members include in-house biologists with a full range of capabilities including botany, entomology, herpetology, and mammalogy. We provide a wide range of field and writing services that include preparation and implementation of biological studies (for example, biological surveys, pre-construction surveys, compliance monitoring, and focused studies for special-status species), impact assessments to species and habitat areas, permitting, wetland delineations, and effective mitigation measures for biological resources. As an integral aspect of our work, PMC has participated in public site visits, workshops, and hearings, as well as small technical working groups.

PMC utilizes Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) throughout all stages of inventory and assessment. We assist clients in directing development away from sensitive areas, thus avoiding impacts and minimizing costs. When impacts cannot be avoided, we develop feasible mitigation measures, working closely with our clients and regulatory agencies.

Our environmental assessment work ranges from projects relatively small in nature, such as road widenings or small developments, to large projects such as specific plans or county general plans that affect hundreds of thousands of acres.
