Natural Community and Habitat Conservation Planning Our ecosystem-based approach protects regional flora and fauna—and economic activity.
Sustaining the unique habitats of California in the midst of extraordinary growth is a tremendous challenge. We inventory species and natural communities, develop sound conservation strategies, and seek collaboration in our NCCP/HCP efforts.
Natomas Basin Habitat Conservation Plan
Sutter County needed a strategy to preserve key wildlife habitat while allowing urban development in the Natomas Basin.
We worked with City of Sacramento and wildlife agency staff to update the Natomas Basin HCP and provide well-supported conservation strategies for 22 wildlife species. The City and County have adopted the HCP and the associated wildlife agencies have approved it. Development of a comprehensive habitat system is well underway.
