PMC prepared comprehensive citywide Design Guidelines for the newly incorporated City of Rancho Cordova to ensure quality development through the design review process. The Design Guidelines express the desires of the community through quantitative performance standards and qualitative objectives. The guidelines address the design of subdivisions, site plans, and building architecture. Not only are provisions included for specific building and site planning components, but rules for how projects “plug in” to the fabric of the community are also provided. This approach translates to an implementation checklist used by designers, staff , the public, and decision-makers in the City’s design review process. The guideline document is well illustrated with “do this” and “don’t do this” photos and illustrations to complement the text and to clearly illustrate the intent of the guidelines.
